William Headridge collected materials

William Headridge (1887-1959) was an attendant at Essondale Hospital and became the chief steward in 1940. William was born in Alloa, Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1913. He started at Essondale Hosptial that year. He married Ida May Healey (1896-1978) in 1915 and they lived in likely Cottage 118 on Essondale grounds. They had three children, May Jean (Billie) Headridge (1916-1962), John Morris (Jack) Headridge (1919-1989) and Gordon McKay Headridge (1920-2000). After William became chief steward, the family moved into Cottage 110.

This file contains Headridge's diary, correspondence, and military, pension and financial records. Notably it includes photographs of the Headridge family and Essondale Hospital, and also contains a photo album labelled "Headridge album 194-?". These photographs depict Ida May's extended Healey family (originally from Manitoba), vacations to Revelstoke, B. C., the Headridges wearing their army uniforms in preparation of the Second World War, as well as many unknown friends and family to the Headridges. A series of photographs depict the children of Billie Headridge, namely Brian Bovet, and likely the unnamed daughter of Gordon Headridge.

Aubrey and Vivian Elliott collected materials

Aubrey Charles Elliott and Vivian Elliott (née Marc) were staff at Riverview Hospital. The file consists of photographs of Vivian in her nursing position and Aubrey in his grounds staff position and at special events. The file also contains photographs of buildings on Riverview Grounds and some biographical information about the Elliotts.

Richard Thomas Hall collected materials

Richard Thomas Hall was the manager of the Occupational Therapy and Trades Buildings at Riverview Hospital. He and his family lived at Essondale in Cottage 113. The file contains photographs of the Occupational Therapy exhibit that was presented at the PNE and at a YMCA and the Woodworking shop in the Occupational Therapy building.

The fonds consists of records created and accumulated by Don Cunnings, documenting his involvement in sport and recreation in Coquitlam. The archivist arranged the fonds into three series. One series documents the activities of Cunnings during his tenure at the District of Coquitlam Parks and Recreation Department. The second series consists of personal and professional records accumulated by Cunnings, documenting his various professional positions for reference and posterity. The third series consists of photographs and other media.

The records include photographs, newspaper clippings, newsletters, correspondence, recorded documentaries, three scrapbooks, and assorted textual records and ephemera.

Riverview Hospital Historical Society collection

The Riverview Hospital Historical Society collection consists of the records collected and maintained by the Riverview Hospital Historical Society (RHHS). Through their museum and library, the RHHS acquired and stewarded records documenting the history of Riverview Hospital, the British Columbia School of Psychiatric Nursing, and the history of psychiatric care in British Columbia.

The collection consists of a range of documentary forms, including: reports, theses, newspaper clippings, newsletters, publications, correspondence, manuals, plans and drawings, directories, inventories, procedures, programmes, annuals, invitations, motion pictures, personal narratives, staff lists, minutes, study notes, scrapbooks, ephemera, and photographs depicting aspects of social and administrative life at the hospital and school.

The collection is arranged into ten series that reflect original collections maintained by the RHHS, and are organized by media type or content. See the Arrangement note below for more information.

This series consists of records related to the administration and operation of Riverview Hospital as well as some of the official events and programs organized by the hospital. The series is arranged in two subseries:

Reference Materials

This series consists of assorted materials collected for reference purposes by the Riverview Hospital Historical Society and originally acted as a reference library when the Society ran its museum. It contains publications, clipped articles, studies, DVDs, transcripts, and pamphlets. In addition to its reference collection, the series contains a subseries of the scholarly communications and theses arising from research undertaken at Riverview Hospital. Many publications are originals; however this series also consists of copies of articles.

Colony Farm Records

This series consists of records related to the construction and operations on Colony Farm at Riverview Hospital. The materials relate to the original construction planning and dyking done to create Colony Farm, as well as some of the early auction and sale records of cattle and horses.

Record types include correspondence, financial records, agreements, receipts, a certificate, and policy material.

Assorted photographs of Riverview Hospital

This subseries consists primarily of photographs that depict aspects of social and administrative life at Riverview Hospital and the nursing school. These photographs include staff and volunteer portraits, identification photographs, retirement and goodbye teas, awards dinners, luncheons, grand openings, seminars, lectures, courses, staff trips, holiday events, displays, and graduations from the School of Psychiatric Nursing. Additionally, this subseries contains photographs depicting the interiors and exteriors of buildings on Riverview Hospital grounds, the Woodlands School (TWS), as well as various public works projects, vehicles, and medical supplies used by the hospital staff.

Record types consists largely of silver gelatin negatives in large format cellulose acetate sheets and cellulose acetate film strips. The subseries also contains chromogenic colour negative film strips and large format sheets, silver gelatin DOP prints, a photograph album, and a scrapbook.

Parks, Playgrounds, and Sports Fields

The file consists of newspaper clippings describing activities undertaken by the District of Coquitlam Parks and Recreation Department in Coquitlam parks, playgrounds, and sports fields. The photographs depict several parks, including Mundy Park, Como Lake, Mountain View Park, Coquitlam River Park, Blue Mountain Park, and Riverview Park.

Exhibitions, events, and media coverage

The series consists of records produced and accumulated by ArtsConnect in the course of planning, organizing, and mounting arts and culture exhibitions and events. ArtsConnect organized many exhibitions covering a wide range of media: painting, sculpture, photography, performing arts, decorative arts, and video art. Annual exhibitions featured in the series include Works in 3D, Faces of the World Arts and Culture Festival, Vernissage, and Innovations. The series also includes the media coverage of events and exhibitions.

The resulting records are largely textual in form and include correspondence with artists and exhibitors, press releases, art and artist lists, exhibition proposals, application forms, internal memos and scheduling documents, installation records, artist CVs, contracts, didactics, artists' statements, promotional materials, invitations, condition reports, loan agreement forms, and newspaper clippings. Some audio and visual material, including photographs, installation plans, cassette tapes, and magnetic tapes, are also present.
