This subseries consists of one large, leather bound scrapbook with photographs and the writen history of every year of the preschool from 1952 to 1975. The subseries also includes several short written accounts of the history of the preschool, as well as some newspaper clippings.

This subseries consists of theses and dissertations based on research and findings at Riverview Hospital. It was originally a division in the museum library collection.

The collection consists of records accumulated by Shyla Seller during her time as a student at Parkland Elementary School, Como Lake Junior Secondary School, and Centennial High School. Records also relate to Shyla’s participation the Olympics of the Mind, a competitive academic event in which participants engage in challenges that test their creative problem solving skills. The collection also includes material related to and created by other members of the Seller family, as well as material related the Hol’n’ One Donut House chain, which was owned by Shyla’s grandparents Bill and Nina Seller.

School of Psychiatric Nursing Records

This series consists of records created and accumulated by the School of Psychiatric Nursing at Riverview Hospital. It includes administrative and financial records that informed the operation of the School, annuals (yearbooks) of each graduating class of the School, the publications accumulated from national psychiatric nursing organizations, as well as graduation and departmental photographs.

Record types in this series include manuals, reports, policies, handbooks, staff lists, event programmes and invitations, minutes, study notes, yearbooks, and publications.

Riverview staff publications

This subseries consists of scholarly communications of Riverview Hospital staff as well as materials collected for the purposes of reference and future research. It was originally a division in the museum library collection.

Records include articles reprinted from medical and psychiatric journals, proceedings from symposia and conferences, and other scholarly publications used for reference.

The Riverview Hospital Historical Society collection consists of the records collected and maintained by the Riverview Hospital Historical Society (RHHS). Through their museum and library, the RHHS acquired and stewarded records documenting the history of Riverview Hospital, the British Columbia School of Psychiatric Nursing, and the history of psychiatric care in British Columbia.

The collection consists of a range of documentary forms, including: reports, theses, newspaper clippings, newsletters, publications, correspondence, manuals, plans and drawings, directories, inventories, procedures, programmes, annuals, invitations, motion pictures, personal narratives, staff lists, minutes, study notes, scrapbooks, ephemera, and photographs depicting aspects of social and administrative life at the hospital and school.

The collection is arranged into ten series that reflect original collections maintained by the RHHS, and are organized by media type or content. See the Arrangement note below for more information.

Reference Materials

This series consists of assorted materials collected for reference purposes by the Riverview Hospital Historical Society and originally acted as a reference library when the Society ran its museum. It contains publications, clipped articles, studies, DVDs, transcripts, and pamphlets. In addition to its reference collection, the series contains a subseries of the scholarly communications and theses arising from research undertaken at Riverview Hospital. Many publications are originals; however this series also consists of copies of articles.

Proposed Closure of Burquitlam Elementary research documents and brief

The file contains the research materials compiled by the Burquitlam Elementary School Parents Association Ad Hoc Committee on School Closure for a brief to submit to School District No. 43 to dispute the proposed closure of the school in 1987. Records include the finished brief, photographs and a traffic study for student safety, enrollment, community school use and teaching staff statistics, cost saving statistics, letters of community support, and a petition.

The subseries consists of records compiled in President's binders and portfolios. Records include by are not limited to job descriptions, agendas, meeting minutes, newsletters, consitution and by-laws, teacher's contracts, budgets, licensing, etc.

Como Lake Preschool

Photographs

The series consists of seven class portraits from 1960 to 1966 and two from the 1920s, as well as four additional photographs including a portrait of Joseph William Harris and his family ca. 1912 ; two photographs depicting two separate properties in Coquitlam; and a photograph of the Coquitlam float in the 1945 May Day Parade in New Westminster.

Photograph Albums - Class and School Event Photographs

The file consists of fourteen albums of photographs compiled by Burquitlam Elementary school, largely depicting student class photographs, but also depicts school events including holiday concerts, Halloween events, athletic events, and community events. The file also contains student register lists that correspond to students in the class photographs.

Personal Collections

This series consists of records that were original personal fonds and collections acquired and preserved by the Riverview Hospital Historical Society's during its existence. It contains the personal collections of nurses, doctors, general staff, British Columbia's first Provincial Botanist, and a patient at Riverview Hospital. Each file includes records such as study notes, photographs, ephemera, correspondence, newspaper clippings and pamphlets.

The series consists of 15 files, each corresponding to its original creator or donor: Ken Baker, Loretta Barnet, Ultan Patrick Byrne, Jean Campbell, Edna Colvin, John Davidson, Sheila Dumore, William Headridge, Alyce Hockin, Lois Kaldestad, Catherine Murray, Judy Pendry, Dorothy Pocock, Hazel Shepard, and Georgina Bernice Petty.

Olympics of the Mind Records

This series consists of records related to the Olympics of the Mind: a competitive academic event in which participants engage in challenges that test their creative problem solving skills. Shyla and a group of her classmates represented Coquitlam District #43 at the 1986 World Finals in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Nursing annuals and reunion books

This subseries consists of nursing annuals (yearbooks) given to nursing students at their graduation. The annuals include lists of graduating students and their photographs, as well as other information about the school year. Additionally, the subseries includes two reunion books for the graduating classes of 1957 and 1958.

Newsletters and bulletins

The series consists of newsletters and bulletins created by the Burquitlam Lions Club, as well as newsletters and publications issued by Lions Club International and District 19 Governors from 1998 to 2011.

The subseries consists of formal class photographs, records identifying the children in the class photographs, correspondence, a complete list of students from 1929 to 1972, a guest book with signatures from the Homecoming in 1979, a scrapbook with news clippings, photographs, letters and pamphlets relating to the Homecoming in 1979, newsletters, news clippings, and a series of notes likely prepared by the Port Moody Heritage Society about the history of Mountain View School.

This subseries contains miscellaneous reference materials that were not related to scholarly communications or public relations materials.
